Dave Wise shot for Issue 9, The Hollywood Issue of FIASCO Magazine

Working with the amazing Sam Crossley @ Profile Models shot this slick story as a celebration to the old hollywood classics from a purely stylistic viewpoint. Far less Cinematic and more Fashion for Fashion Sake.

The amazing Lucy Clarkson

The very hot Lucy Clarkson

Lara Croft went mental with the launch of the Tomb Raider series of games which ended up on pretty much every platform out there. Here is the amazingly beautiful Lucy Clarkson showing she still has it. Lucy has now gone on to develop The London Academy of Modelling which we hope proves immensely successful for her.

Shot by Dave Wise a while ago now, but Dave often chats to Lucy and keeps apprised of everything that’s going on in her world.

Playboy Bunny Celebrations

50 years of the Playboy Bunny

50 years of the Playboy Bunny

This year see’s 50 years of the Playboy Bunny.  Here in Europe there is an official troupe that can be hired out to grace your venue or event with utter fluffy bunny loveliness.  Four of those bunnies came in to shoot for Playboy France to celebrate.  Along with the bunnies the Scorching Image crew were drafted in to build the set and produce the images.

We started by building two huge numbers, 8′ high and 4′ wide and strong enough for everyone to interact with on the day.  Framed out, covered and weighted so as they didn’t fall over or need securing at the top.  Of course with these nutty girls it was always going to be good to keep someone around to catch them, just in case.  (ed. But they were very well behaved on the day, well except Logan, I am sure she has mental stability issues, oh a nice bum ;) ).  With the number built it was just a case of getting everyone in, shooting and shooting images to cover the 8 pages.

50 Years means BIG numbers

Obviously, this is for Playboy, nudity required, we won’t be posting those shots here, but there are two galleries attached to this post.  One with the behind the scenes carnage and one with the finished (non-nude) images.

It was a great day shooting, all filmed by the extraordinary talents of Dan Poole, an amazing Videographer and Actor. (ed. Is that a blatent plug for Dan?  Seriously, he’s a nice guy and all, but please . ahh sod it, he is cool ;) ).  4 Bunnies, 2 Makeup Artists, 2 Assistants, 1 Wardrobe Stylist and Dave Wise behind the lens.  Loads going on and being done, staggered shooting and rotation of wardrobe.  Everyone was busy from start to finish.

(ed.  I know you said you were busy, but I found these pictures, I am not sure these constitute being busy?)

Anne Look and Julie Cooper being busy Bunnies?

Dave and Julie again being extremely busy (ed. See, Dave isn't always serious, here is the proof!)

Check out the rest of the behind the scenes photos to see the girls doing their thing, Dave doing his thing and Dan doing his.  It was a great day of shooting, some great images produced and all for a very special occasion.

Happy 50th Birthday Playboy Bunnies .. Here’s to many more to come!

Here are the final shots (ed. Minus the nude ones that is)

Once a year Dave get’s invited into the centre of excellence that is the London College of Fashion to discuss the courses and content to be covered by the students starting through the foundation course then moving into their BA.  For Dave it’s a privilege more than a chore, he loves the opportunity to help give the new talent in the world of Fashion Photography and Styling, the knowledge they will need. Anyway, enough from me, here is what Dave had to say about it.

Bleak looking train station, please note all the water!

Well it’s that time of year again, time to review the changes and the next steps in the courses at the LCF. It’s always the same, it seems Gavin (or Ben, not sure which to be honest), love picking the days when it is absolutely belting down with rain to do these things. I remember last year Rebekah and I getting drenched outside John Princes St. This time is was Vanessa Warren, the extremely talented Fine Art photographer and I, arriving at the Lime Grove site looking like a pair of drowned rats and feeling a little dishevelled. All part of the fun as they say.

Warm and dry at last!

So, after drying off and warming up, the fun begins.  It’s actually quite surprising the things we need to know to work in the wonderful world of Fashion Photography and Fashion Styling. (ed. it’s just point and click right? surely?).  For students embarking on this 2 to 3 year journey it can seem a little daunting and fragmented, but really, it isn’t.  The goal of the course if to give each and every student the ability to understand themselves, or at least start to, lets face it, it takes a lifetime to find out what makes you tick.  Sometimes, just sometimes, even after that lifetime you still haven’t worked it out!  But the London College of Fashion aim, quite rightly, to give you the tools to understand yourself, to be able to express yourself and be able to adapt to the scenarios that often play off around you during your career.

The topic of conversation

Some things from the last session have already been incorporated into the course content, including structure changes that are right now being implemented, it’s exciting times for the students currently studying and for the London College of Fashion.  We spent hours discussing the why’s and wherefore’s about what students NEED to know and what they may want to know.  Its difficult for a group of passionate people to stay on track, especially once they realise they can be whatever they want to be.  It can be difficult to find that balance of spreading wings or clipping.  Some students wont like having the wings clipped, even just a little, but they need to remember, The London College of Fashion get’s 500+ applicants a year, 80 are interviewed, for just 25 places.  It’s about finding your feet, not refusing the input.  If you refuse the input, act like you wont be influenced, how will you survive in an industry that is all about influence and trend?  We discussed new modules, new credits and even new vocational skills.  The courses are definitely becoming essential learning, I can’t believe I think that; given my background of using “Life” as my motivator not being shown what to do.  I like the way the students learn and are taught at the London College of Fashion, its real and more importantly, it works.

Finally on the Agenda was talk of new courses, new faculties, well what can I say, I for one am very excited for the future.  We finished the evening with a tour round the studios at Lime Grove; these are very lucky students!

I look forward to being a part of it for many more years to come! (ed. and you said it was all about the home made pastries!).

Heidi Mottram is well known for her use of non-traditional skins when it comes to producing her beautiful Bags.  The Spring/Summer 2011 collection is truly amazing.  The whole collection is inspired by Sea Lillies and Haida (for those of you who don’t know, that’s a totem pole by the way).  They are all about the beauty, patterns, structure and power.  Dave Wise was commissioned to come up with a shoot concept that reflected the collections inspiration and produce images that were “Magical” in feel as well as beautiful.

Dave wanted to use something wooden, something shell shaped and something worn, to reflect all of the elements of the initial concepts in the designs.  With some hard searching a Chaise Longue was found with all of those elements.  It was absolutely beautiful, with a Suede seat, scroll work and antiqued finish.  All things requested, in one neat (ed. but expensive) package.

Everything from start to finish took a couple of weeks to sort out, in fact the entire process from commission, through concept to delivery of images took around 4 weeks.  The brief was done, the props purchased, creatives booked and the model optioned.  Dave said “Well, the bags are about skin, in this case fish, but still skin and texture.  As human beings we’re about skin, lots of it, so we shouldn’t over dress the situation, it should be about skin on skin and the bag should be an extension of the person holding it.  I know my Wife would never leave the house without hers and our family life manages to squeeze into that.  So it had to be a naked model, we should blend the two together.  I commissioned Lauren Baker, an amazingly talented Bodypainter to help me with that particular element.  I accept it could all have been done in post production, but that’s not what making a photograph is about”.
